Hi Dear Readers!
It's been a busy holiday season and my family is still going strong with our celebrating. DH told me stop stressing about ProjectTwentySix for these two weeks so I could relax and enjoy the family time. I'll be back in a few more days.
I think I should play catch up (I'm about 10 days behind), but DH says just start when I come back with Day 71 and continue with one post per day. He says just do it until Day 366 (leap year) and don't worry about the date on the calendar. I kinda feel like we started on October 12, 2011 and I want to be done October 11, 2012.
Any thoughts?

Day 70 - Hangers & Toys
I'm headed to the consignment store today and last time I was there the owner mentioned they could use the plastic, swivel hangers. So I dug some out of my garage sale boxes.
1 to 10. Hangers to give consignment store
11 & 12. Other hangers that don't match
13 to 16. Pieces of McDonald's toys
17 & 18. Belle and her skirt - both totally nasty with black gunk from the tub. Usually I boil the bath toys to deal with mold, but there was just so much on poor Belle I decided not to bother.
19. Threadbare bath towel - This came from my cousin's muscle car something like 5 years ago when I helped him out by driving it to the port to be shipped overseas where he was stationed. The car had to be completely empty (including gas!) and I found this in the spare tire well. Have I been saving this because I think he'll want it back?
20. Mattress cover that isn't waterproof.
21 to 26. Baby linkies

Day 69 - Textile Recycling
This is almost all going to my friendly neighborhood Re-Tex box. All these items are too worn to donate to the thrift store but they could end up on somebody in a third world country - Or be reycled into insulation.
This is all stained/mildewed kid clothes, my jeans with a hole in the knee, and leather shoes falling apart.
Does anyone else have kid's clothes that mildew when waiting for a wash? I hate when I find something at the bottom of the basket that has gotten ruined because it got tossed in the hamper wet.

Day 68 - Grown Up Clothes
DH decided to get rid of all his fraying jeans. I added it to a stack of clothing set aside piece by piece for the last few weeks to get Day 68's 26 items.
1 to 5. DH's jeans
6. DH's trousers - never gets worn
7. DH's plaid shirt - never gets worn
8. Freebie t-shirt - worn out
9. Polo shirt - worn out
10. Freebie t-shirt - never gets worn
11. Freebie athletic 'breathable' shirt - never worn
12. Sweater - too big for me (HOORAY!)
13. Blue top that I love - bleach spot (BOO!)
14. Tank top - too thin
15. Polka dot top - never gets worn
16. Another pair of DH's frayed hem jeans
17. My jeans with a paint spot
18 to 21. DH's warm & wooly socks
22 to 25. My shoes that don't get worn
26. DH's tie - matching shirt is long gone
DH says he still has 3 pairs of jeans left - that seems like so few to me! But he insists it's enough. I will definitely not be buying the 36" inseam anymore despite DH's 6'5" height. They obviously sit low on his hips if he's getting rid of 6 pairs of jeans with frayed hems! I'll only buy the 34" inseam from now on and the bonus is that you can find those much more easily than the 36".

p.s. Triple post today as I still am catching up from vacation!

Day 67 - Stamps, Markers, Stencils, Punches
Today's selection includes more stuff that belongs to that imaginary crafting genius I want to be. I do sometimes make cards so I can justify keeping a few items, but I've never used these markers for stamping and gel pens just don't give me the joie de vivre they used to. These stamps are landscape pieces, invitation items, and Christmas themed that I haven't used even once. Also included are an embossing board and template, some stencils, some punches, some toothbrushes for painting, and tiny fake flower I have zero use for.

Day 66 - Embossing Tools
Gah! I was scrolling through old posts and realized poor Day 66 was never published!
The original post:
Here are more items that belong to that imaginary person I think I am. She is very thoughtful, remembering birthdays with beautiful handmade cards that she delights in making. She also gets lots of compliments on her talent, of course.
Since she doesn't exist I guess I don't need all these embossing powders, sponges, brushes, & tools. I kept a silver, gold, and clear powder just in case she shows up one day.

Day 65 - That Person I Used to Be
Further inspired by The Joy of Less, I am getting rid of things that belong to another imaginary person: That girl I used to be.
I'm getting rid of our mortarboard tassles because we don't need them to know we graduated. I am getting rid of all these fine jewelry boxes because I don't store jewelry in them and can't even remember what came in most of them. Not pictured are an assortment of underthings that belong to that person I used to be. Total items are 26.

Day 64 - More Magazines
Continuing with getting rid of things that belong to an imaginary person, I am getting rid of more of those magazines that belong to that woman who reads them.
These are Disney's Family Fun which I'm sure are full of awesome ideas, Family Circle, & a few bits and pieces to round out 26. The odds & ends are All You, a short stack of kid crafts, a 4 ingredient cook book that generally includes canned goods, and a big sheaf of papers explaining a software program I no longer use. All of these have been hanging out on or in my nightstand for too long.
Katie
Day 63 - That Person I Want To Be
I had the opportunity to delve further into The Joy of Less on vacation with my husband last week. I am applying a principle today that I read about in that book. The idea basically is: Why keep stuff that belongs to an imaginary person? For example the person who reads all her magazines. As much as I aspire to be that person, she just doesn't exist at my house.
Today's selection includes Better Homes & Gardens, Parenting, and a couple years worth of MOPS quarterly mailings. I know I've read most of the MOPS magazines and will happily pass those on my SIL, but Parenting and BH&G have landed in the reycle bin - mostly untouched.

1 Timothy conviction
A few weeks back I came across a passage of scripture during my Bible study that has been helpful in keeping my attitude right as I dispose of many 'things.'
It's in 1 Timothy, Chapter 6 when Timothy is teaching about contentment. The familiar scripture is verse 7, "For we have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it either," but I really like verse 8, "If we have food and covering, with these we shall be contenet." Really? Just food and covering? And be content? Hmm.
Remembering this particular passage has been helpful as ProjectTwentySix becomes more challenging. And I'll be using it to look at our belongings with a critical eye this week!
Watch for double posts the next 5 days as I catch up from a vacation with DH!

Spelling
You wouldn't believe how much time I spent trying to decide how to spell 26. There aren't really that many options, but they all seem right!
In truth, I probably spent about 5 minutes researching and deciding how to handle the spelling issue. But for a homeschooling mom with 4 kids 5 and under this length of time is significant and really, not the best use of that 5 minutes. I should have just asked DH and cleaned a toilet instead.

Day 62 - Little Kid Stuff
Today's assortment is a bunch of kid flotsam I don't want floating around the house anymore.

1-4. Random figurines - Where did these even come from?
5. Hello Kitty necklace who string has frayed beyond repair
6. Deck of Tinkerbell playing cards
7-9. Silly Bands
10. Soccer ball eraser
11. Pot for 'makeup' application on a toy doll. A wet rag will do the trick just fine.
12. Pencil grip - why do we even have these?
13. Tiny plastic car
14-15. Magnets from a Princess Belle toy.
16. Paper doll fairy
17. Paper doll fairy dress
18. Cardboard cut out of a Littlest Pet Shop thing - I think.
19. Barbie dog food that has been destroyed by one of my daughters in a quiet moment. I'm sure that quiet moment, whenever it was, was well worth the price.
20-21. Baby links
22. Random marker lid
23. Unbreakable crayon with no crayon inside
24. Pencil sharpener guy that lost his pencil sharpening guts long ago
25. Rubbery bracelet promoting some cause or other
26. Kids' flavored lipgloss - Don't buy my kids makeup, please.

Day 61 - First Pass at the Office
Our office is a horrible mess. We had the idea that putting it upstairs, front and center for people to see as they walk in our front doors would motivate us to keep it tidy. Instead it motivated us to put up gathered sheer curtains on the french doors so no one could see inside.
A couple nights ago I was going crazy trying to get a little organized for year end tax planning purposes because I couldn't find anything! I was so frustrated I threw away a whole bunch of paper that is completely unnecessary but I like to have it. Here is a photo of the pile. And I didn't even make a dent.

I'd better get all this sorted out before tax time or I'll really go crazy!

Day 60 - Christmas Stuff
As we unpacked our Christmas stuff last week I realized I had a few things I could part with.
1-16. I love these dishes. I've had them a few years but haven't even used them once which is super disappointing to me, but also makes it obvious that I don't need to keep them. Some of the attachment is emotional because a dear friend gave them to me on a very financially poor Christmas when DH and didn't have enough money to buy eachother gifts. She and her husband got me and DH both a little something so we'd have a gift to open Christmas morning. Sheesh, I'm even getting a little teary just typing this.
17-19. I also love this little Christmas train, but I don't love fixing it constantly which I've had to increasingly each year. It is not a coincidence that the number of children abusing it has also been increasing. This poor train had only been out a week when two of it's three cars demanded repair so we'll just let it go. It's cute but doesn't point to Jesus so I consider it a non-essential Christmas item. I'm pretty sure my Aunt gave this one to us at least 5 years ago.
20. This is an ornament we have never managed to use. It was a gift back when we first got married and it gets pulled out and then packed away each year without ever landing on the tree so we're saying goodbye.
21. A little mirror. It's been a knick-knack of mine since college, but as I was putting it away to make room for Christmas decorations I decided I didn't need to keep it.
22. A little notepad that doesn't get used and mostly just makes more work for me because I have to pick up little pages whenever the girls get hold of it. I will stop holding it hostage in my nightstand and set it free.
23-26. I love these dresses. My girls wore them for two years. I ended up taking these to consignment with their matching hair things.

Day 59 - Construction Debris
As we prepared to take our lumber scraps to a friend we got rid of all this, too.
Those two trash bags are full of paper bags from cement used to pour cement slab in our basement. They were found buried in the dirt as we cleared out yards and yards of dirt from our crawl space. And they have been sitting in a big pile in the basement for a couple months. Also in the photo are bits of white trim from the old bathroom. I don't think the trim is burnable due to processing/chemicals (but I could be totally wrong) so we are just tossing this out instead of giving it to my friend.

Day 58 - More Lumber Scraps
My friend from church offered to take these lumber scraps off our hands. Here is a pile of 26. A big thanks to DH for hauling all this (and those in yesterday's post) up to the driveway so we could make a delivery.
Do you recognize the wood scraps? You've seen them before when I posted pictures of my basement.

Day 56 - Thrift Store Donation
I finally got my act together and made a run to the thrift store today to make a donation. It included many things you've seen here on ProjectTwentySix and many other things that have been hanging out in our garage long before October 11 when we started this blog.
DH wanted me to take a picture of those things for ProjectTwentySix and I felt that since we had already determined to get rid of them before the Project started they shouldn't count. He made a good point that even though they were earmarked for donation already they had continued to clutter up the garage so as a compromise we're just calling it one day's worth when there was easily 52 and closer to 73 of those items.

Day 51 - Hats & Gloves
We have one drawer full of our winter hats, gloves, & scarves. It is overflowing and supremely irritating to try and shove everything in it and get it closed on a semi-regular basis. In response I decided to get rid of a lot of it.
1 to 10. Gloves/Mittens
11. Scarf - bulky, not cute
12 to 24. Hats
25 & 26. Little knick-knack pictures frames I've had for years.
I know this looks like I must have gotten rid of everything, but don't fret Grandma! We still have 6 kids' hats, 6 pair of kids' gloves, 2 pair of daddy gloves, 1 daddy hat, 1 pair of mommy gloves and 2 mommy hats. Also 2 kid scarves just in case. I think we're still more than well-stocked. As ProjectTwentySix progresses I may get rid of even more - Gasp! - because really, we only need one hat & one gloves for each of us. It's just convenient to have spares for the kiddos, especially when gloves get wet from snow.
